Puppy's First Few Days At Home

Your puppy’s first few days (and nights) in her new home can be difficult for everyone as she has been accustomed to having littermates to provide comfort and playtime 24/7.

Your puppy will greatly appreciate a calm and quiet environment for the first few days as she explores her new home and gets to know each member of her new family. Begin training right away, build her confidence by verbally rewarding good behavior and discourage negative behavior by saying NO.

Please be sure your puppy has some quiet time in “her” space to rest and have less stimulation, especially during the Holiday gatherings. Remember, everything is new and she needs to get her “sea legs”

Show your puppy her potty area as soon as you arrive home.  It is best to take her to the same place (preferably near an exterior door for quick access) each time so she will learn to potty in one area and leave the rest of your yard clean; ideally! Returning to the same area also signals her that it is time to “go potty” which is the command we use.  Be patient, everything is new and she will want to explore.  We also told Cleo to “go potty” just before taking her in the car.  We have done this from the time she was a youngster and now she automatically goes when she knows we are going in the car.

Read over THE PUPPY'S RULE OF TWELVE and continue to expose your puppy to new things!  You have 4 -8 more weeks of beneficial socialization time left!

Grooming:
Your puppy has had baths and been combed and brushed.  It will be very beneficial if you continue to comb and brush your puppy
to insure that she will be accustomed to grooming and it will make it easier as her fleece grows. One way to signal it is not playtime when
you are brushing your puppy is by putting her on a high surface such as a counter or on top of a washer.  Be sure to put a mat so he will
not slip/slide about.  We also have been using an electric toothbrush to gently brush your puppy's feet and coat.  Not only does it mimick
some grooming room noises, but it also desensitizes them to having their nails dremeled.
The more things that become “normal” to you puppy at an early age, the more she will take life in her stride.

It is best to engage in training when she is somewhat hungry so either food or a treat will hold significant appeal.  I am sure it goes without saying; never physically discipline your puppy.

Also, about plants and household items harmful to you puppy.  http://www.lakelurelabradoodles.com/toxic-plants--poisonous-household-items.html

It is a good idea to have your Vet’s phone number as well as the after hours ER location handy before needed.  You may want to have your local Poison Center Hotline number, the AAPCC number is 800-222-1222.  Have simple OTC medicine such as Benadryl on hand if your puppy has an allergic reaction to a bee sting, this may avoid a rushed trip to the ER.

Our course you have our full support, so please never hesitate one moment
to call, text or email!  We want to hear from you.

Thanks again for choosing a Lake Lure Labradoodles' Puppy.
