As a gardener I wanted to be sure Cleo was not exposed to any toxic plants. Before she arrived I removed several plants from our landscape and watched for any volunteers the following summer. The toxic part of plants varies among species; seeds, leaves and/or roots may be toxic. Please sure to puppy proof your yard before bringing home a wee one by carefully reviewing your landscape and checking the sites below for more information. This list reveals which part of the plant is toxic.

The Humane Society also has a list of plants that are potentially poisonous for pet. Please click this link to review their list.

Holiday Tips
Some common plants that are toxic for your puppy are seasonal.; during the Holiday Season be mindful when decorating with plants, particularly avoiding poinsettias and bittersweet. The ASPCA's site has a comprehensive list of toxic and non-toxic plants for dogs. It also has a search box for the ease of locating specific plant information. Lists are separated for dogs, cats, and horses. Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center (The University of Texas At Austin) "Ask Mr. Smarty Plants"  is another good resource for toxic plant info.

In addition to plants, there are many household items that are poisonous. A list of some of the more common items can be found on this website. I encourage you to seek out more information online.
